At The Gathering, new supergroup TBL did what everyone expected them to do
sooner or later: make a truly great demo! With power-members like Danny,
Louie, Facet, SuperNao and Rodney, they were pretty much destined for
greatness, winning not only the demo competition but the 4k intro and
graphics competitions as well. At the same party, Norwegian group
Triumph reached 2nd place with (to my knowledge) the first demo to directly
support 24 bit graphics cards - "Dreamscape".

On the PC side of things, ex-amiga people also dominated. Demos like CNCD's
"Inside" (TG winner) and Oxygene's "Contrast" all featured the work of ex-
Amiga sceners, and brought a new sense of design and quality to the pc demo
scene. For the first time, pc demos could really rival those of the Amiga.

In other alternative platform news, it's worth noting that the c64 showed
some promise this year, with several of the larger parties hosting c64
competitions with good participation. It was not until the end of next year,
however, that we would see the revolutionary participation at The Party 7!

Why isn't there any Amiga intro results...wasn't there any? The 'definitive
list of finnish parties' on the byterapers website claims the date was 19-21
of january instead, presumably one week later than the above date...? Which
is right?

OZ96 was held in NSW, Australia, and it was a small (only 59 official
visitors + some who didn't bother paying :) party for the oz PC scene.
Entries were shown on a 486DX-2/66mhz instead of the promised DX-4/100mhz,
but there were few complaints. Entries from contestants not present at the
party were allowed, but only the ones present could receive prizes.
Goblin's 4k intro crashed when it was shown, and was disqualified.

GP2 was held in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Poland by Adrar Design for the pc
scene (though some amiga sceners were present). Around 200 people attended.
Competitions were arranged for 4ch music, multichannel music, gfx, ray
traced gfx, 4k intro, intro and demo. Entries were shown on a 486DX4-100
machine with a choice of GUS or SB soundcards. GP3 followed in 1997.

TG96 was held at Vikingeskipet in Hamar, Norway by The Crusaders.
About 2400 people attended. After the disastrous 95 edition, Crusaders were
back at the reins to bring the Gathering back on track. Of the extras they
offered, an InterNet connection was among the most appreciated. Unlike all
the other result files, we also have the correct results for the graphics
competition. The correct music competition results are forever lost due to a
HD crash. BTW, the official (machinegenerated) results suck! Session's
"Plumb" also competed at the Symposium at the same time.

Brothers, Lego, Phantasm (amiga), Avena, Absense (atari) and Oxyron (c64).
These people organized the 680xx Convention, Black Box Symposium and the
Fried Bits last year, but decided to cooperate instead this year.
About 640 people attended.
  Please note that AT means Atari and refers to the Atari Falcon, and that
AC means the ACorn Archimedes. Artwork won the Black Box Symposium compo
last year too. Session's "Plumb" also competed at the Gathering at the
same time. While there were no real c64 graphics and music competitions,
four pieces of c64 music actually competed in the multichannel competition!
Our results are more complete and with more correct names than the official
result file, especially concerning C64 competitions; lots of small fixes.

DML96-1 was held at Joensuun Kauppaoppilaitos in Joensuu, Finland for both
Amiga and PC users. 113 paying visitors showed up, and the total number of
voters were 78. All competitions were show with mixed Amiga and PC
contributions, including the demo and intro competitions. The competition
machines were an Amiga with 060/50 and a Pentium 200 PC with a Matrox
Millennium gfx card. Max file sizes for demos are four megabyte, and they
may not use more than 8MB of memory. Intros may be up to 80kb in size.
It would certainly be nice with some more production names!
  This was the first ever Demolition party, and aother was held in november
at the same site.

SAT96 was held in Paris, France by Saturne for the Amiga and PC. This was
the third Saturne party, the first in two years, and the first to support
the PC. About 620 people turned up. Ironically, the top two positions of
the PC demo competitions were occupied by ex-Amiga people making their PC
debut productions :) The party was cancelled and postponed several times
before finally being held in the end of april; Bomb's invitation intro said
it would be held 1-3 september, presumably in 1995! The intro also made
mention of competitions for the Atari Falcon, the C64 and Video demos...
Modules for the music competitions were preselected; 25 modules from 90
submitted. Another Saturne party, Saturne IV, was held in November.
  Having reviewed there pictures, I can only conclude that there is _NO_
justice in this world. People like Flan, Lowlife, Bez and not least Slaine
delivered excellent pieces of work, yet the people voted for inferior
material.

ICI96 was held in Lerum near Gothenburg, Sweden by C-Lous, Sardonyx (amiga),
Yodel and Goto 10 (pc). About 350 people attended; most from the western
parts of Sweden, but a few Norwegians also showed up. A cafeteria was open
around the clock, with quite reasonable prices. There were a few problems
with the delivery of power, and as usual, the party network went down a few
times, but nothing really out of the ordinary :) A few local bands played
music on the stage, an arrangement the organizers had to put up with in
order to rent the hall. Reportedly, most of them should have stayed in their
garages and practized for a few more years... ;) There was no separate
raytracing competition, ao several traced pictures competed in the graphics
competition.

RMD96 was held in Solnahallen in Stockholm, Sweden by Limited Edition
(amiga), DCS Graphics (amiga) and Candela (pc). This was the second time
Remedy was arranged, and about 400 people showed up. Invitation texts
mentioned they were working on securing an internet connection for the
party network, but there's no information on whether they were successful.
Also, who were these 'scene related musicians' who were going to perform?
Amiga compo machines were 030 with 4MB fast, and for the PC's a P100 with
16MB ram, a PC 2MB graphics card and SBPRO or GUS MAX. The invitation text
also mentioned C64 and WiLD demo competitions, and I'd appreciate any
results! There was also a fast intro competition.

TSP96 was held in the centre of Aalborg, Denmark. It was NOT the expected
success. Out of the about 800 people expected, only some 300 paying
attendants showed up. The German-French TV channel ARTE made a report from
the party, and aired it on the 19th of November. Escom were to have been
sponsors, but seeing as they went bankrupt on the second day of the party,
that didn't happen. The prizes in the competitions also had to be
drastically reduced, and as a result, two participants withdrew their
productions. Complete results wanted!

their demo "Voodka" had been corrupted by Union's antivirus, but they

SKE96 was held in Palokka, Jyväskylä, in central Finland by by Zymosis,
Bombsquad and Da Jormas. About 260 people attended. Against all common
trends, this party attempted to recreate some of the atmosphere of the
early copy parties...and succeeded! First of all, noone complained if you
had a beer or eight. The party developed into a giant party, with drunken
people everywhere. The Police came several times, and in the end busted up
the party, which by then had become a giant Rave Party. A Skenery'97 is
being planned...
  Demo and intro competitions were held mixed, with Amiga and PC
contributions competing against each other. The amiga machine configuration
was 060-50 with 16mb fast, but the production had to run on 030-50 8mb.
PC configuration was P75 16mb, 1MB S3, GUS or SB16/SBPRO. Productions had
to run on 486DX2 with 8mb. Wunderbaum's "He Loves You" (amiga) was not
shown, due to a broken disk or something...

Vodka of Saturne. SAT4 was actually the second Saturne this year! Held in
the same hall as all previous Saturne'. The bulding comprises 2 large
halls. Though it was promised in the invitation, there were NO internet
connection. The 64k intros were shown mixed, both Amiga and PC. The music
competition was open to both 4- and multichannel modules.
502 visitors attended. Helloween 96 was held at the same time.

CAC96-2 was held in Kecskemet, Hungary, and was the second of two Cache
parties this year! There were about 900 visitors. One innovation of the
party was the music competition, where techno and other music were
separated. The one and only Amiga 64kb (by Impulse) was not allowed to
compete together with the PC intros, because the organizers were shocked by
the intro and didn't want the Amiga to win over the PC! It was shown out
of competition only... There were more contributions to the competitions
than portrayed here; AstroideA's winner demo was shown as #7...

GRV96 was held at the Gwardia hall in Opole, Poland by Anadune for the pc
and amiga scene. This was the first ever Gravity party, another followed in
97. Invitation intros were made for both platforms, but unfortunately they
were not very well spread. Sponsors of the party were Optimus SA (biggest
Polish PC manufacturer), CD Action Magazine, and RMF FM (radio station).
This, considering Anadune's strong roots on the Amiga, was a controversial
decision. Many people didn't like an Amiga group doing advertising for PC
manufacturers. Multi platform parties are quite new in Poland; the first one
was probably the Polish Summer 1996 party. About 4-500 paying visitors
attended, which means about 600 people total. This was the first year that
Gravity was arranged; another one followed. The results below are slightly
improved by me in places - usually just fixing small errors in production
names, and such.

amiga and pc scene. About 100 people attended. Competitions were held
combined. The amiga used was 'the best available' (060/50?) and pc was
Pentium 120 with Matrox Millennium, 1MB standard GUS, and all demos were run
under MS-DOS 7.0 with minimum boot - just himem.sys and UniVBE. Maximum
filesize for demos were 4 MB. This was the second Demolition party this
